Research Fellow – Alborada Well Foal Study (Reference 018119)

Applications are invited for a post-doctoral Research Fellow post in equine intestinal metagenomics. A four-year, longitudinal study of the development of gut microbiota in Thoroughbred racehorses is underway that has already established a unique dataset of samples and metadata. This post is to provide dedicated bioinformatics and data analysis expertise in order to integrate and interrogate bacterial community profile data, immunological and health outcomes data. The post holder will be primarily responsible for data analysis, data presentation and writing high quality scientific papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals.

The post is based in the Department of Pathology and Infectious Diseases at the University of Surrey, within the new School of Veterinary Medicine in Guildford, Surrey. You will be part of a vibrant, inter-disciplinary research environment with a strong international reputation. The Department has a critical mass of expertise and funded research projects investigating many aspects of animal intestinal microbiota. This is a fixed term post for a duration of 30 months.

The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in gut microbiome research and preferably experience of working on previous projects in this field. Competency and creativity in multi-variable data analysis will be very useful in this role. A scientist with well-developed scientific writing skills is sought in order to deliver the required publications from this project in a timely fashion.

Please note, it is University Policy to offer a starting salary equivalent to L3.6 (£31,302) per annum (full time) to successful applicants which have been awarded, but are yet to receive their PhD certificate. Once the verified original PhD certificate has been submitted to the local HR Dept, the salary will be increased to L4.1 (£32,236) per annum (full time).
