INEC REC resigns, joins APC for governorship race in Bayelsa

Briyai Frankland, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s resident electoral commissioner in Cross River, has resigned to contest in the November 2019 governorship election in Bayelsa state.

Speaking at a send-forth party at INEC’s office in Calabar, Frankland disclosed that he would be contesting the elections on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He said: “On Saturday 21 July 2019, a mammoth crowd of meaningful and pragmatic Bayelsans that sincerely love their state held a very peaceful rally in Yenagoa, capital of Bayelsa state, calling my humble self to contest the November 16, 2019 gubernatorial election.

“I have critically considered their demand and dilemma. I have heard their call to selfless service that had always being my lifestyle.

“For the sake of the very important call to rescuing the kind, peace loving and great people of Bayelsa state, I have resigned my appointment as a REC in the INEC with effect from Thursday, 8 August 2019.

“As a Progressive, I will identify with the very best of the progressive political parties, the APC.”

Daily Trust reports Frankland has saying that the need to re-position the political course of Bayelsa, influenced his decision and urged the people of the state not to sell their votes, but to vote wisely.

He said he would provide the very best alternative to lift the state from the hardship currently being experienced.

also gathered that Agadaga, the national chairman of Ogbia Brotherhood Worldwide, a socio-cultural group, said he would bring development to the people, if elected.

He said his aspiration was borne out of his desire to continue to serve the people of Bayelsa at the highest level, having served as commissioner for information and delivered outstandingly, hence should be giving a fair chance.
