“We wanted to do something where the viewer is the lead character,” reveals “Door No. 1” creator Nora Kirkpatrick, who wrote and directed the first-ever interactive live-action VR comedy. “We wanted you to have a sense of responsibility in this story and be a part of the story” so that “the story can’t continue without you.” Watch our exclusive video interview with Kirkpatrick above.

Viewers walk through the shoes of Alex, who is attending his 10-year high school reunion. Shown in a full 360 degrees, the Hulu original allows audiences to pick and choose what paths to take at key points in the story. You can bust a move on the dance floor, pursue a former flame, confront a bully, or get high with the janitor (Snoop Dogg).

“Every viewer who watches will have a different experience depending on which way you’ve decided to go,” Kirkpatrick explains. On your journey through different storylines you’ll encounter characters played by TV comedy vets including Steve Little (“Eastbound and Down”), Ravi Patel (“Meet The Patels”), Kyle Bornheimer (“Casual“), Missi Pyle (“Another Period”) and Lucas Neff (“Raising Hope”). Kirkpatrick also pops up in the role of Stephanie.

Kirkpatrick previously delved into the world of VR with the series “Virtually Mike and Nora,” which she created, wrote, directed, and starred in. She has also acted in the TV programs “Greek” and “Jennifer Falls,” as well as the film “Sandy Wexler” (2017).

“Door No. 1” competes on the Emmy ballot in the Best Original Interactive Program category. To watch the show, which comes from AOL’s immersive film studio RYOT, you’ll need a VR headset: Oculus Go, Samsung Gear VR, PSVR, Google Daydream or Oculus Rift.
