At the appropriate time, the wise virgins prepared for the arrival of the Bridegroom. The foolish virgins DID NOT. Matthew 25:1 makes it clear that, prior to the time of reckoning, the 10 virgins were the same: they were ALL virgins, they ALL had lamps (symbol of the word of God), and were ALL awaiting the bridegroom (a picture of the second coming of Jesus). ALL 10 of them….

This means the five foolish virgins were also EXPECTANT of the coming of the bridegroom. Expectant, but NOT PREPARED. “AND WHILE THEY WENT TO BUY, THE BRIDEGROOM CAME; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: AND THE DOOR WAS SHUT.” (Matthew 25:10)

The key lesson of the parable is that it is not enough to be expectant about the return of the Lord. The most important issue is that WE MUST BE PREPARED. Today, God is telling us how to TRULY PREPARE for the second coming of Jesus – it is an urgent return to God’s clear will as expressed in His word.

This preparation is two-fold, though both are entwined:

(1) PERSONAL PREPARATION: This involves a rigorous and objective analysis of where we currently stand in Christ. The deception in the church system of today has horribly muddled up God’s standard for Christian living. The standard most of us are using today to evaluate spirituality is the FALSE STANDARD that the church system of today taught us! Thus, some people that think they are born again into Christ, may have only been born again into church – NOT into Christ. Some that are genuinely born again may have lapsed into lukewarmness, not realising that they are in the danger of being spewed out of the mouth of the Lord (Revelation 3:16 ), or being cut off from the vine as an unfruitful branch (John 15:6). Some may need to be reminded and encouraged to fulfil the ministry God created them for, just like Archippus in Colossians 4:17. Some may need to be encouraged to keep standing firm in the Lord no matter the pressure towards weariness. To ignore this important self-analysis (in line with 2 Corinthians 13:5) is to be a foolish virgin in these days.

(2) CORPORATE PREPARATION: As part of the preparation for the return of the Lord, and the call to return to the Bible, God is calling His children to GET OUT of the lukewarm church system of today. God wants His children to return to the biblical principles of the assembling of believers, so that He can pour the fullness of Himself into our fellowship as we build ourselves up in love under the leadership of the Holy Spirit. The church system of today is DEFINITELY NOT in line with biblical precepts and practices. As a matter of fact, it is AGAINST IT. All believers that continue to be comfortable in the church system are OUTSIDE GOD’S WILL, and will find it difficult to truly prepare for the return of the Lord in the days ahead.

One day, THE DOOR WILL BE SHUT against all believers that are not preparing today for the return of the Lord. This preparation may call for difficult decisions, difficult losses, difficult choices, difficult separation, etc, but it is a part of the necessary process of getting ready for the Bridegroom.

The five foolish virgins cried out for mercy as they stood forlorn outside the shut door – BUT MERCY DID NOT OPEN THE DOOR!!! Today is the Day of Mercy. Today, mercy manifests itself in God’s available grace for us to start our earnest preparations NOW.

If Christ is TRULY important to you, you will prepare for His imminent arrival AT ALL COSTS. The alternative is completely unthinkable, the alternative of living through the horrible days of the Antichrist.

“AND WHILE THEY WENT TO BUY, THE BRIDEGROOM CAME….” may this not be our testimony. May we seize this day of mercy to FOCUS on our preparation for the imminent return of the Son of God. He is coming to take His own into His awesome glory. May you be a partaker in that glorious assembly of God’s saints. Amen.
