Nothing went right for NC State on Saturday.
The Wolfpack only scored 24 points in a historically poor scoring effort against Florida State. During the game, NC State attempted to recognize Wolfpack legend and NBA Hall of Famer David Thompson in the stands. Instead, it aired a picture of Ernie Meyers, another former NC State player.
“Same height,” Myers told the News & Observer. “Not the same talent.”
Myers played for the Wolfpack from 1982-1986, averaging 9.2 points and 2.8 rebounds.
Thompson, a 6-4 guard, averaged 26.8 points and 8.1 rebounds in his three seasons at NC State. He went on to become the No. 1 pick in the 1975 NBA Draft and four-time All-Star. His 73-point performance against the Pistons in 1978 tied Wilt Chamberlain for the fourth most ever scored by an NBA player in a single game.
Michael Jordan himself handpicked Thompson to present him when he was enshrined into the Hall of Fame in 2009.
Needless to say, this was a huge blunder for the Wolfpack. They'll get a chance at redemption against rival UNC on Tuesday.
