The Phillies have locked up the young cornerstone of their rotation for years to come.

Ahead of a scheduled arbitration hearing Thursday, Nola has agreed to a new four-year, $45 million contract that includes a club option for a fifth year, multiple outlets reported.

The deal covers Nola's three years of salary arbitration and could cover two years of potential free agency if the Phillies exercise their 2023 option. Nola made $573,000 last season and will see his salary jump to $4 million this year, ESPN first reported.

The 25-year-old right-hander finished third in NL Cy Young voting after going 17-6 with a 2.37 ERA in 33 starts — the second consecutive season in which he improved his ERA by more than a run.

The deal gives the Phillies cost certainty in their rotation going forward, but the question remains how high the stakes will be for Nola the next few years.

Philadelphia has been aggressive in upgrading its lineup this offseason by adding J.T. Realmuto, Andrew McCutchen and Jean Segura, along with David Robertson in the bullpen — and remains a contender for Bryce Harper or Manny Machado — but starting pitching is still a bit of a question mark.
