BAFTAs 2018: Who will win and who should?

Katarina

In a big year for British film, who takes the gongs? Is it Winston Churchill or the heroes of Dunkirk? Here are our predictions.

Unpredictable, you say? Well, we take a guess at who will and who won't take the gong in the main categories - and also whether or not they deserve it.

BEST FILM

This is a tough category to predict. Two movies have dominated the awards race so far: Guillermo Del Toro's The Shape Of Water and Martin McDonagh's Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Our bet is on McDonagh's rural American tale about a racist cop and an angry woman, but it should be the magical - if slightly overrated - love story between a cleaning lady and a giant fish to take the gong.

Best Director

If Shape Of Water doesn't pick up the main gong, then Del Toro will need to be compensated in the best director category. However, and considering his difficulties directing actors and explaining plots, it should be Nolan to take the award, for his superb technical effort in Dunkirk.
