A good marriage can be the closest of friendships between two people who help, comfort, and protect each other. Love can make a marriage strong, but the marriage will become even stronger when a husband and wife worship God. Then their marriage can become like “a threefold cord,” a rope of three strands tightly woven together. A rope like that is much stronger than a rope of only two strands. A marriage will be strong when God is part of it.
Ecclesiastes 4: 9. Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work:
If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!
Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone?
Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
