He has his daddy for a caddy and is beating golfers six-times his age.

Ten-year-old Noah Novacek has just won the junior A division of the Arrowtown Golf Club championships, probably becoming the youngest champion to date at the century-old club.

Club captain Tim Clark says no one is surprised at Noah's big win.

However, it is no easy task for the more experienced players to take on the young champ with plenty of ribbing waiting whatever the result

"They're either hopeless for being beaten by a 10-year-old, or if they beat him, they're a big bully. That's the joke. In reality he's got a great game."

There was no fooling around for 62-year-old Drew Findlay, who found himself in the 36-hole final with Noah on Sunday.

"He's on the same handicap as me so I didn't treat him any different to how I would treat an adult," Findlay said.

"I had an early night the night before and I didn't drink any alcohol. That's how nervous I was. I wanted to beat him for sure. I've been in three finals now in the club champs and I haven't won one of them."

Ultimately it came down to the last putt on the last hole, before Noah got the better of his older opponent.

Clark says the club is delighted to be putting Noah's name up on the honours' board but has warned club members not to take the ribbing too far.

"Next year, if he continues to drop [his handicap], he'll probably be at intermediate level which is pretty competitive, so it'll be the intermediate grade that will have to put up with him and battle with him."

That could well include Clark, who was runner-up in this year's intermediate level, and Findlay again, who is expecting a drop in his handicap after having had the past year away from golf.

As for Noah, he was "pumped" to take the win after losing the Junior B final on the last hole a year earlier.

Dad and caddy Shane Wairau said Noah had been playing since he was five and had won numerous age group tournaments.

He has played for the New Zealand junior team twice against Australia and is returning for the Trans Tasman Cup at Gulf Harbour in May this year.

In January he finished fourth in the Australian Junior Open, including hitting a hole in one on the final day.

Last year he played in the Junior World Champs at Pinehurst, North Carolina, finishing 40th in a field of 160.
