Kamasi Washington is debuting a new short film in January at Sundance 2019. As Told To G/D Thyself is directed by a collective called the Ummah Chroma, which features Washington, Bradford Young (Selma, Arrival), Terence Nance (“Random Acts of Flyness”), Jenn Nkiru (Beyoncé and JAY-Z’s “APESHIT” video), and Marc Thomas (Michael & Javier). It’s inspired by and features the music of Washington’s latest album, Heaven and Earth. Check out the film poster below.

Over the last year, I have had the great fortune of working with an amazing team of directors on a film inspired by my album Heaven and Earth. We are so proud to announce that AS TOLD TO G/D THYSELF will premiere at Sundance in January!

Washington is also set to perform at Apollo Theater as part of the venue’s “Race Music” weekend on February 23. The show is put on in partnership with Afropunk.

Last year, Washington shared the 14-minute long single “Truth,” which arrived with a short film directed by AG Rojas. Back in 2015, he scored a film called The Color Guard.
