Mike Glennon feeling comfortable amid Bears' efforts to empower him

From the top down, the Bears organization has gone out of its way to shout it through a megaphone: Mike Glennon is their starting quarterback.

There’s a lot driving that effort, everything from quelling a potential quarterback controversy to empowering Glennon to take ownership of the offense to generating the offense’s collective belief in the veteran quarterback.

Through spring practices and the first six days of training camp, Glennon has sensed the benefits. On Monday during his weekly media availability, Glennon was asked if he feels as though the Bears are his team.

“Yeah, that’s been the case really from the moment I got here and reached out to the guys,” Glennon said. “We’re lucky to have a really good group of guys that have all bought in to what we are doing. Everyone has been a really good teammate so far.”

Glennon especially meant rookie quarterback Mitch Trubisky, who on Saturday exuded belief in the Bears’ plan to have him develop behind the scenes in his first season.

“Everything that I could ask for as far as it not being a distraction, they’ve done that,” Glennon said.

“Mitch has done a great job. He understands what his role is. He hasn’t been a distraction either. I appreciate everyone that has been involved in making it strictly about football and putting that other stuff to the side.”
