A Bride-to-be, Sarah Cummins was supposed to get married last weekend after working extra-time and making savings over a 2-year period for her big day. After all arrangements had been made, and for reasons she has kept to herself, she canceled the wedding and invited the homeless to the reception goodies.

Sarah, a pharmacy student at Purdue University, and Logan Araujo had been planning a dream $30,000 wedding extravaganza for the past two years. A week before the wedding, she called it off and the two of them were left with broken hearts and nonrefundable contract expenditures.

She had already paid for a venue and a plated dinner for 170 guests scheduled to hold last Saturday night at the Ritz Charles in Carmel.

Sharing her experience, the former bride-to-be has said that it ‘was really devastating’. She talked about how she had called everyone, apologized, cried, called vendors, cried some more and then, ‘I started feeling really sick about just throwing away all the food I ordered for the reception,’ she said.

The 25-year-old decided to turn her grief into a good turn. Following a mutual understanding with Araujo, she made arrangements with the event planner, Maddie, to reorganize the reception area at Ritz Charles. She then contacted homeless shelters in Indianapolis and Noblesville, and invited residents to her party.

Sarah said that all the stuff previously ordered for remained intact, they only arranged the tables differently. She said, ‘there’s no head table for the bridal party, no cake table or gift table."

Cheryl Herzog, the director of Dayspring Center, one of the beneficiary homes said of Sarah, ‘I was so touched that Sarah had taken a painful experience and turned it into a joyful one for families in need.’

Her former husband-to-be, Logan, said of the development, ‘I'm happy through my grief and also Sarah's that she was able to make a selfless and very thoughtful decision in such a hard time.’
