Millie and Marcia are 11-year-old twin sisters - one is white and the other is black - they are set to start middle school.
As expected, people get freaked each time they see the pair together and are told they are twins. They find it difficult to accept that they are twins owing to their contrasting physical attributes.
At birth in 2006, Marcia Biggs and Millie Biggs from Birmingham in England showed a lot of similarities; they looked almost identical. But over time, a difference in their skin tone began to set in and became even more conspicuous as they grew older.
Millie became darker skinned, with her brown eyes, and taking after her father who is Jamaican. Marcia became lighter, blue-eyed, looking more like her white mom, and had curly, blonde hair.
Father to the twins, Michael Biggs, told reporters, ‘Within a few months, the changes started to happen.’
He said, ‘Millie started to suddenly get darker, and we thought that the same would happen to Marcia.’ He said both he and their mom never worried about it anyway.
In preparation for the twins starting school, Michael and his wife had to put up with explaining to their teachers that they were indeed twins.
Reactions from the teachers were that of shock and a lot more people are amazed when they discover that the girls are closely related, not to talk of being twins.
The twins’ mom, Amanda Biggs, shared some of her experiences: ‘I'd be picking them up after school, and the other parents would stop me and say: “Are they your daughters?”’
Mrs. Biggs said each time she told them they were twins; those other parents would be surprised. ‘I notice a lot of people doing double-takes,’ she said.
Apart from their different skin tones, their mom said Marcia and Millie’s other features are quite similar.
According to Mrs. Biggs, ‘They are both absolutely beautiful, and they make me proud every day; they do absolutely everything together.’
She said she finds it funny when people don’t believe they are twins.
