With injuries ravaging the Colts roster, there have been a fair few variances in who is getting snaps. After a big win on the road against a legitimate contender in the Chiefs, there are some interesting things starting to take shape in terms of who the Colts are running with on both sides of the ball, so let’s dig in and see what we can glean from this week’s snap counts.
Notes
- With injuries to Devin Funchess and Parris Campbell, the wide receiver room is a bit thin. However, after strong performances throughout this season, Zach Pascal has earned his role on the offense and got the second most snaps behind only T.Y. Hilton.
- Mo-Alie Cox significantly out-snapped Eric Ebron in this game, and that bears watching. Ebron hasn’t been a major factor so far in 2019 and had a rough outing last week. He had another drop Sunday. This was likely more a factor of who could provide the best run blocking, but it will be something to watch closely as the season goes on.
- Jordan Wilkins saw just 12 snaps in this game, despite averaging 4 YPC. He makes a very good change of pace back, and it would be a good idea to get him more involved and keep Mack fresh and healthy as this season wears on.
- Despite both suffering leg injuries and struggling through a week of little to no practice, T.Y. Hilton and Marlon Mack both took the lion’s share of snaps at their respective positions. Two of the toughest players on this Colts offense.
Notes
- George Odum and Khari Willis both took every defensive snap in this game. You certainly couldn’t tell that the two guys at the safety positions were so young and inexperienced. This is not a role that is likely to be given back by Willis, he has looked very good.
- Jabaal Sheard saw his snaps increase this week, and the defense looked very different as a result. The lineup of Houston, Stewart, Autry, and Sheard is the prominent one for the defensive line, and the results were very positive.
- Kemoko Turay accounted for 34 snaps this week, and his broken ankle means someone will need to account for those. Who is stepping into that role? Ben Banogu got no defensive snaps, but he is sure to benefit some from Turay’s absence, as will Al-Quadin Muhammad.
- Rock Ya-Sin continues to look like a solid player and has integrated in perfectly as a starting cornerback. The youth on this defense is somewhat startling, and they could continue to take major leaps as the season goes on.
