Netflix users are once again being targeted by an email scam that is email scam that is coercing people into parting with their personal information.

According to Australia’s 9News, scammers are targeting Netflix users through their email accounts and trying to steal your personal information. This sophisticated phishing tactic uses Netflix-branded emails to lure you into a false sense of security.

The email reads, “We’ve temporarily suspeneded [sic] your account due to some issues in the automatic verification process,” users are then persuaded into handing over their personal details.

The email continues, “We will provide you with all the steps you need to unlock your account. Please follow these instructions after you click on the link below.”

Anyone unlucky enough to click the “UPDATE YOUR DETAILS” link will be redirected to a fake Netflix login page that looks just like the real thing.

While it looks pretty flashy, there are some easy signs this isn’t the real deal. The site reports how security service MailGuard first spotted the scam but wasn’t easily fooled. A statement reveals several “red flags”:

“There are several grammatical and spelling errors within the body, such as the bolded ‘suspeneded’. Spacing errors are also present throughout the email.”

Finally, the scammers have stupidly spelled “NETFLlX” with a lower case “L” instead of the letter “I”.

When they’ve got your details, I can only imagine some twisted Black Mirror-style scenario where you end up living as a virtual clone trapped as someone’s personal assistant.

Netflix isn’t the only company struggling with security issues at the minute. Apple has been forced into disabling FaceTime after reports of a bug in the video calling feature has allowed anyone to call a phone or Mac and listen remotely before the other person picks up.
