A 92-year-old widow injured in a home invasion in Northland has been reunited with her treasured stolen possessions, including a gift from her late husband.
The woman was assaulted in her rural Kawakawa property on January 10 by two women, who knocked on her door and asked for fuel before ransacking her home and fleeing.
During the invasion, they allegedly took a number of valuable items, including jewellery and the victim's wallet and a calling card.
The calling card contained her late husband's name and was given to her over 75 years ago and held high sentimental value.
Detective senior sergeant Rhys Johnston, of Northland said police, said officers had since recovered the items, which would be returned to the victim.
The woman was thrilled to soon be reunited with her possessions, Johnston said.
The woman was admitted to hospital after the incident and released later that day. She has since made a full recovery.
"This is an absolutely appalling incident and we know the local community in Kawakawa will be shocked and angered at how a vulnerable member of the community has been targeted," Detective Sergeant Greg Johnson said at the time.
Two women have already appeared at Kaikohe District Court in relation to the incident.
