A large fire has taken a hold of a building, which is believed to be a preschool, in Ōtara, south Auckland.
Firefighters arrived on scene to find a building on Everitt Rd "well alight" just after 4pm on Sunday.
The building in question was believed to be the Ōtara Community Preschool, but a Fire and Emergency spokesman there was some question about whether it was actually a school building.
"We're just waiting to confirm that it is actually a school building. All they've told us that a large building is on fire."
Firefighters had called for backup, he said.
There were about six crews at the scene, helping to put out the blaze. There were no initial reports of injuries.
Police were in attendance at the scene. A police spokesman said the fire was in an abandoned building.
