David Warner couldn't get going batting left-handed, so he opted to face up to Chris Gayle right-handed in the Bangladesh Premier League overnight.

It's fair to say it worked, with the suspended Australian cricketer thumping the self proclaimed 'World Boss' over his head for six to raise his half ton, before following it up with consecutive boundaries to finish the over.

Warner, having failed to hit the spinner the first three deliveries of the over, informed the umpire he would change his stance before launching into his assault.

"It was one of those things at the back of my mind as I couldn't get Chris away because of his height and the lengths that he was bowling," Warner said after the match.

"I play golf right-handed, so I thought I might as well come and swing and clear the ropes. It came off."

Warner finished with an unbeaten 61 in the Sylhet Sixers' 27-run win against Rangpur Riders in Sylhet. It was his second half century in five knocks. He averages 35.3 at a strike-rate of 133 in the league.

The 32-year-old, along with Steve Smith, are suspended from playing for Australia until the end of March for their part in the ball-tampering scandal which rocked Cricket Australia last year.

While Warner continues to play in the BPL, Smith recently returned to Australia from Bangladesh with an elbow injury. He had surgery on Monday and is in a race against time to make their World Cup squad.
