Firefighters battled a fire at a Rangitīkei landfill for nearly two hours.
Fire crews were dispatched to the Bonny Glen landfill on Whanganui Rd, near Marton, after a large fire broke out at 6.15pm on Sunday.
A water tanker and three fire trucks from the Bulls and Marton brigades battled the 20 metre by 5m blaze for over an hour and a half, Fire communications shift manager Belinda Beets said.
The next morning, fire fighters also had to deal with a burning car near Whakarongo.
The car was well-alight when the Milson Fire Brigade arrived at the corner of Koehlers Rd and Te Matai Rd at 3.40am on Monday.
A police spokesman said the fire appeared suspicious, and was being investigated as a potential arson.
