Lydia Ko's bid for a 16th win on the LPGA Tour remains on track after the second round of the Tournament of Champions in Florida.

The 21-year-old Kiwi will go into the weekend in a share of second after shooting a three-under 68 at the Tranquilo Golf Course on Saturday morning (NZT).

Now eight-under the card through the first two rounds of the new season, Ko trails Canadian leader Brooke Henderson by two strokes. Thailand's Ariya Jutanugarn and South Korean Eun-Hee Li are also eight-under.

Heading into the second round one-shot off the pace after her opening round 66, Ko mixed five birdies with two bogeys on Saturday.

She'll no doubt kick herself for the ugly three-putt on the par four 15th, a hole she bogeyed after barely sliding her birdie putt past the hole. Ko then missed a two-footer for par.

However, after making par on 16, Ko got back to within two shots of Henderson by making birdie on the par five 17, a hole comfortably reached in two.

Ko's up and down on the par three 18th shouldn't be forgotten, not after she came up short off the tee and needed to drain a tricky putt to save par.

Like Friday, Ko didn't miss a fairway in the second round and will go into the business end of the competition with a real shot at bagging just her second win on tour since 2016, and first since snaring the Mediheal Championship in April last year.

Henderson went bogey-free during her four-under 67 to extend her first-round lead by a shot.

England's Georgia Hall had the round of the day. Highlighted by draining an eagle on 17, she shot a five-under 66, but is seven shots off the lead in a share of 15th.
