A Wairarapa man died in a crash near Carterton and was discovered by his boss who had back-tracked to find him.
A Martinborough man, 39, was killed when his car crashed on Millars Rd about 2km west of the Longbush Rd intersection at about 5.30am Wednesday.
Response manager sergeant Ian Osland said it appeared to be a single vehicle crash and the man was the sole occupant.
The crash happened as the man was on his way to work.
"The guy's been late for work meeting his boss. The boss has back-tracked as a precaution and has come across him," Osland said.
A person has died after a crash on Millars Road in Carterton on Wednesday morning.
Family members have been notified.
"From what I understand he's a popular member of the rural farming community so there will be a lot of people impacted by the death," Osland said.
The Serious Crash Unit is examining the scene and the road is expected to be closed for some time.
"Once the serious crash unit have finished their examination there will be a cultural blessing at the site for family," Osland said.
The man was driving from Martinborough and heading east along Millars Rd when the crash happened, he said.
The crash occurred in Longbush, a rural community in the Carterton District.
A section of Millars Rd has recently been resealed with signs near the Ponatahi Rd intersection warning motorists.
"If there are any roading factors it will all come out as part of the investigation by the Serious Crash Unit," Osland said.
He warned that with the changeable whether it was a good time to remind people to be safe on the roads.
"With the chop-and-changing weather, wet conditions brings oil up the surface. Just remember to drive to the conditions.
"Don't rush. It's better to be five minutes late than to not get somewhere at all."
