A professional bull rider in the United States has been killed after the bull he was riding "stomped" on his chest.
Mason Lowe died in Denver on Thursday morning (NZT), after he sustained serious injuries while competing at the National Western Stock Show.
The 25-year-old was riding a bull named Hard Times, when he was thrown off.
"While he was on the ground the back legs stomped him in the chest while he tried to get up," a witness told Denver-area station CBS4.
"When he got up he immediately grabbed his chest and stumbled over to the exit and then fell to the ground again, grabbing his chest before he could get out of the arena. They took him out on a stretcher."
He was taken to a Denver hospital, where he died. Professional Bull Riders announced in a statement that they would host a special fundraiser in the arena on Friday (NZT) to benefit Lowe's family.

Lowe turned professional when he was 18, and has been ranked as high as 14th in the world rankings.
He started riding when he was three-years-old, performing in front of friends and family in Missouri.
"They get to watch me on TV every week, but it's a lot different when you get to see it in person," Lowe told the Springfield News-Leader in 2017.
"It's kind of like a big rock show on wheels with bull riding attached to it."
