Like most new mothers, 24-year-old Lucero Priscila Garza Campos was eager to lose weight after giving birth to her first child. In her haste to get back to her pre-pregnancy size, she tried a common trick to shed pounds, but it ended up killing her. She died only weeks later, and now, her tragic story serves as a sobering warning to other mothers who may be thinking of trying the same thing.
Lucero purchased diet pills online in order to help her lose the weight she had gained during pregnancy, and this turned out to be a fatal mistake. Thinking the pills were safe, as they were branded “all-natural,” the 24-year-old gave them a try.
However, they turned out to be banned in Mexico, where the new mom lived, and Lucero died from health complications just four weeks after taking them. She left behind her 14-month-old baby, who will now have to grow up without a mother. According to local news outlet El Siglo de Torreón, the pills Lucero took were called Avitia.
Lucero found herself suffering health problems including headaches after taking the pills and shortly afterwards fell into a coma.
She was rushed to hospital in the state of Nuevo Leon, north-eastern Mexico.
But she began having trouble breathing and she was diagnosed with an inflamed brain.
The young mum was hooked up to a breathing machine in an attempt to keep her alive.
But her family have now confirmed she has died after they took the tough decision to switch off her life support. [Source: The Sun]
Understandably, Lucero believed the pills were safe because they were branded as “all-natural.” How many times have you seen the same thing and decided to buy it, believing you were making a healthier choice? I know I have.
Lucero likely did not do any further research on the product before consuming it, which, again, is quite common. How often have you found something you’re interested in on the internet and purchased it without reading any reviews or Googling the product name to ensure there are no recalls or bans associated with it?
It is entirely possible that Lucero never even knew the pills she took had been banned, as she bought them online, where virtually anything can be shipped to any country. Unfortunately, she only discovered how dangerous they truly were once it was already too late.
It simply isn’t worth risking your health in order to return to your pre-pregnancy size so quickly after giving birth. A woman’s body endures countless changes and stresses in the process of creating another human being, and we ought to be a bit more lenient with ourselves when it comes to erasing all signs of carrying a baby.
Eating healthy foods and exercising are always better choices than diet pills, which may claim to offer a “quick fix” to weight loss but are not a good long-term solution and often times can be very dangerous to your health.
