LG Velvet gets announced ahead of its own launch event

TalkAndroid

The LG Velvet is due to be announced next week, but LG jumped the gun early on showing off their new phone. We’ve already seen quite a few teasers and leaks, some from LG directly, but this is essentially an announcement before the real announcement.

Strange, but at least now we know what to expect.

LG Velvet is budget-premium

This phone is high end, but not high end. You’re looking at a phone with a sleek design that’s all powered by a Snapdragon 765 5G CPU paired with 8GB of RAM, 128GB of internal storage, and a 4300mAh battery. It’s keeping the headphone jack and microSD card slot, too.

But it’s not a replacement for the LG V60 ThinQ; there’s no HiFi quad DAC here, and the CPU is a step down from the chip powering the higher-end device. It’s still a sizable 6.8-inch OLED display, though, so you’re really not making too many compromises.

On the back of the device you’ll find LG’s new raindrop camera system, with a 48MP main camera, an 8MP ultrawide lens, and a 5MP depth sensor, tailed by an LED flash, all in decreasing sizes to look like a raindrop… I guess? This is the closest thing to a “gimmick” that LG is using here. The press release from LG does say it supports Dual Screen, though, so perhaps they’ll still be selling a second screen accessory for anyone that wants it.

The full livestream event for this phone is set for May 7th. Expect the last few details to be announced then.
