Microsoft previews Family Safety app to keep tabs on internet activity

Microsoft has released their Family Safety app into Preview status, which will now give families the ability to track and control activities across devices. It’s pretty similar to a digital wellbeing solution integrated with parental controls, but through Microsoft’s ecosystem instead.

So what’s the deal here? The app is pretty simple, and it’s available on both Android and iOS. It’ll track time spent on smartphones, as well as time spent on Windows and Xbox. That means it can go a little bit further than Google’s tracking, since it’ll work on more laptops and a gaming system, and it can do some location tracking as well.

But those integrations means you’re really going to have to invest in Microsoft’s ecosystem to benefit here. It’ll track time on Xbox, but not PlayStation, for instance. It only works on Windows, so any Macs in the house will be excluded.

But if this seems like a good fit for you, and you already live inside of Microsoft’s walls, you can sign up to test this one out early.
