Jussie Smollett has been arrested and placed in custody, according to law-enforcement officials. The Empire actor was charged with felony disorderly conduct Wednesday evening for allegedly filing a false police report claiming he was attacked by two men in Chicago last month. Anthony Guglielmi, the chief communications officer of the Chicago Police Department, confirmed Smollett’s arrest via Twitter and the Associated Press reported that he turned himself in. Tom Ahern, deputy communications director at CPD, added that Smollett was facing a class-four felony charge—punishable by as much as three years in prison—for “disorderly conduct in falsifying police report.” Ahern said that Smollett’s bond hearing was scheduled for 1:30 p.m. in Cook County Criminal Court.
