Arsenal transfer news: Last-ditch bid to keep Alexis Sanchez

Arsenal are drinking in the last chance saloon with Alexis Sanchez, reports the Daily Star, although not literally what with the FA Cup final just 48 hours away.

Rather the paper says that the Gunners have "tabled a massive offer" to Sanchez in the hope he stays at the club and shuns a big money move elsewhere.

Taking its cue from German rag Bild, the Star claims that Arsenal will offer the 28-year-old frontman "a whopping £17.3m-a-year (£330,000-a-week) to commit his future" to the Emirates.

It's an attempt by the Gunners to blow Bayern Munich out of the water, after the German's began circling the Chilean.

Gunners gaffer Arsene Wenger was asked about the chances of hanging onto Sanchez over the summer during his pre-FA Cup final press conference and he replied: "We have nobody at the end of their contract so that will be completely our decision. Therefore, I just believe that we, the club, have a big job to do during the summer because you want to keep players like Alexis and end all the speculation that could happen."

But according to website Goal.com, Paris Saint-Germain have joined the chase to land the player as they look to strengthen their squad after losing out in the Ligue 1 title race to Monaco. With Antero Henrique set to be appointed their new sporting director in place of Patrick Kluivert, Goal says that he is ready to make Sanchez the "club’s number one priority in the transfer window".

Henrique, the former Porto director, wants to make a statement of intent for the French club and he sees Sanchez as the man to make that message.

Meanwhile one-time Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit has said the club can forget about signing Kylian Mbappe this summer. The Gunners have been linked to the Monaco magician in recent weeks but Metro reports the comments of Petit, who is well-connected in the French game.

"Mbappe will never come to Arsenal as he will cost at least €100m and you have to break the salary cap and I don’t see Arsenal doing that," explained Petit, who said that it will either Real Madrid or Barcelona who wins the race for Mbappe.

Finally Barcelona-based newspaper Sport says claims that Manchester City are about to table an eye-watering bid for Arsenal full-back Hector Bellerin.

Pep Guardiola has been tailing the former Barca academy player for much of the season and he's waiting until Arsenal have played Chelsea in Saturday's FA Cup final before making an official approach.

According to Sport, City will make an opening offer for the 22-year-old Spaniard of £34m, and wait for Arsenal's response. Guardiola is apparently eager to steal a march on Barcelona, also known to be interested in Bellerin, but who won't be in a position to make an offer until they have appointed their new coach.
