Jacob Zuma: Why is he facing his eighth no-confidence vote?

South African President Jacob Zuma is facing his eighth vote of no confidence following allegations of corruption, but for the first time, this vote is being held in private.

A leak of more than 200,000 emails implicated "cabinet members, state-owned industry executives, and members of Zuma's own family" in a corruption scandal, CNN reports.

Fifty of Zuma's 245 African National Congress (ANC) MPs need to vote against him for the motion to pass, leading to what CNN calls a test of his party's loyalty.

Parliament speaker Baleka Mbete decided to give voters anonymity and remove party bias, writes the BBC.

Zuma has been president of South Africa since 2009.

Andries Tlouamma, deputy president of the rival Agang party, said that if the president survived, South Africa was "on a highway to hell".
