Crystal Palace: Fans still in conflict over whether to keep or sell Max Meyer

Transfer Tavern

Max Meyer has caused a lot of debate amongst the Crystal Palace fanbase, and now many are discussing whether the player should stay at the club after the question was asked on Twitter.

The German arrived with a lot of pressure on his shoulders as he was highly rated in Germany whilst at Schalke 04, and made his debut for the national side at the age of just 17 back in 2014, via Transfermarkt.

However in South London, the 24-year-old has failed to make an impact. Part of the blame is down to his form when given opportunities and the other half is that manager Roy Hodgson has played him out of position quite often – indeed this season he has played the majority of his games out wide despite being a natural centre-midfielder (Transfermarkt).

The statistics on paper just don’t seem to be good enough to warrant a start for the midfielder. He has played 51 times and only managed two goals and three assists, via Transfermarkt, whilst this term he is averaging just 0.1 key passes per game, via WhoScored.

It will be interesting to see what happens in the summer. There is definitely potential for the player to grow, it is just whether he can succeed in being at his best in the Premier League.

These Palace fans debated whether the German has a future at Selhurst Park:

One player I really want to see thrive at the club…

Does Meyer have a sustainable future at #CPFC?

I hope so because there’s a player in there for sure but just not happening for him so far

No. Sadly.

He would give a lot more creativity to the midfield, and score more goals, but I’m liking our current midfield!

Under Roy’s leadership I would say no, but for me we should be building the team round him as well as jairo.

Needs to be more assertive. Reminds me of Johnny Williams. Next season will make or break. Hope he does well.
