Hopeful Liverpool fans continue to have their emotions toyed with as the latest Philippe Coutinho update links him heavily with Newcastle.
Amid talks of a potential Toon takeover, it looks like Tyneside is the most likely destination for the Brazilian playmaker this summer. That is according to Spanish journalist Guillem Balague (relayed via @AnfieldEdition), who has also said Liverpool are “not interested at all” in signing Coutinho.
The 28-year-old has struggled since he left Anfield for Barcelona in 2018, being shipped out on loan by the club with whom he thought his wildest dreams would unfold. He has enjoyed a solid spell with loan side Bayern Munich – scoring eight goals and assisting six in the Bundesliga (via Transfermarkt) – but the Germans aren’t looking to sign him permanently.
Could Philippe Coutinho make an Anfield return?
Yes!
No way!
Despite his turbulent relationship with some Liverpool fans, it seems a lot of Reds were hoping Coutinho would make a return to Merseyside. Now that talks have all but been shut down, many have responded to Balague’s comments, with one claiming “It’s Michael Owen all over again”. Of course, the former Liverpool icon left the club in similar fashion for Real Madrid before moving on to join Newcastle after just one season in Spain.
