Rangers: Charlie Austin admits he would be interested in Ibrox move

Charlie Austin has told Open Goal that he would be open to a switch to either Rangers or Celtic.

The 30-year-old currently plies his trade with West Bromwich Albion, who are second in the Championship, and he has scored nine goals in 30 games. However, with just 13 starts in the league to his name, he is clearly not at the forefront of manager Slaven Bilic’s plans moving forward.

Speaking to the YouTube channel, he said: “The Old Firm derby is the pull isn’t it to play in Scotland. You want to win things as such too. If the opportunity came up would I go? I think so yeah.”

This season he has not been at his best, but he was a top marksman in the Premier League during his peak. During the 2014/15 season, he managed 18 goals in 35 matches despite QPR being relegated from the top flight, and he has managed 34 goals in 106 top-tier English games overall.

Currently valued at £2.88m by Transfermarkt, his arrival would surely not break the bank if Rangers were to make the move – these comments should see Ross Wilson spring in to action. Austin, with his track record, could be a huge hit north of the border – and if he is eager to make the switch, then it would be mad not to at least engage in talks.
