In a recent interview with Dom Howson, former Sheffield Wednesday player Jose Semedo has opened up about his departure from the club three years ago.
In 2017, the Portuguese defender was released after putting in seven years of service to the Yorkshire club (via Sky Sports). Now, Semedo has revealed the details behind his dismissal from the side, stating the way he was let go was ‘unfair’.
The 35-year-old has given his side of the story, claiming he was waiting for a phone call to discuss his future with Wednesday, but that call never came.
Will Osaze Urhoghide become a Hillsborough star?
Yes
“All I wanted to do was play for Sheffield Wednesday,” Semedo told Yorkshire Live. “I couldn’t see myself with another club but no one called me about renewing my contract. I was very disappointed. It was the hardest time in my career.”
Some fans have responded to his comments on the situation and many are wishing the club hadn’t let Semedo leave. One Wednesdayite has said it’s ‘disgusting’ that he wasn’t given a proper send off and has slammed the board saying ‘shows where we are as a club now’.
Check out further reaction from the Hillsborough faithful below:
He’d be the first name on that first 11 team sheet, even now. His passion ,determination and most of all leadership is what Wednesday have been desperately needing for years. Disgusting he never got the send off and respect he deserved. Shows where we are as a club now

Why did we let him go ?

Semedo….. proof that there are still footballers who don’t care about money and fame but giving 110% for a club they love. And because of that one of the only players in recent memory, universally loved by all the fans. Imagine if we had a full team like that.

Why we didnt offer him a role within the club is stupid! People like @JVSemedo are hard to come by

If we had 11 players with the same desire and passion as Jose we would be in the premier League by now!

Like he said, it’s been fairly clear that we’ve had no great leaders/role models since the departure of somedo and loovens.
