Some Tottenham Hotspur fans have discussed Benoit Assou-Ekotto after Last Word on Spurs and The Spurs Web wished the north London club’s former full-back a Happy Birthday on Twitter.

Assou-Ekotto made 205 appearances in all competitions for Spurs, scoring four goals and providing 10 assists according to Transfermarkt. He has also played for RC Lens, Queens Park Rangers, AS Saint-Etienne and FC Metz and has been capped 23 times by Cameroon, as per the website.

Some supporters praised their former man on Twitter but a couple slated the 36-year old by comparing him to Serge Aurier, who they do not seem particularly fond of. Comparing Assou-Ekotto’s last season in the Premier League to Aurier this campaign, the former averaged more interceptions, clearances, shots, passes, crosses, long and through balls per game, according to Whoscored.

One fan said that Assou-Ekotto was underrated and based off these stats he might be right. Other supporters also hailed their former left-back, as you can see by their reactions below:

Very under rated!

A better left back than any we have at the club at the moment. Not loved by all of the fans but I always thought he was decent.
