Leyton Orient chief executive Danny Macklin has praised Tottenham star Harry Kane after shirt sales spiked following the announcement that the Spurs striker will be sponsoring them next season.

Kane recently announced that he will sponsor Orient’s team kit to make a sizeable contribution to his former club.

Speaking to Goal (via @TranSPURS), the League Two club’s CEO acknowledged the Englishman “is a first class individual”. Macklin added: “He has helped provide vital income and exposure and is raising money for three fantastic causes.

“One week on, we have already sold more shirts than we did in the entire 2019-20 season. It is unbelievable. We have had to place two top-up orders since.

“We have had enquiries from around 113 places to buy the shirt, and we have had 100 orders from the USA. It has been phenomenal. We even know of Arsenal fans buying it and applauding what Harry Kane has done!”

The England international has teamed up with the League Two side to donate to three charities, including Mind and Haven House Children’s Hospice, and the club revealed that 10% of the profits from every item sold will be contributed to the causes featured. Orient’s home jersey will be emblazoned with a message of support to frontline workers battling the ongoing pandemic (BBC).

Kane made his senior debut for the O’s in League One at the young age of 17 years, five months and 18 days all the way back in 2011. He scored five goals in 18 games for the Londoners before leaving Brisbane Road to return to his parent club Tottenham.

Naturally, lots of Spurs fans raved over the “role model” as the comments emerged, with one supporter tweeting that Kane is “pure class”.
