Winter storm dumps snow, cancels flights from Missouri to Maine

UPI

An early winter storm is dumping snow, ice and rain across the Ohio River Valley and Northeast Thursday, forcing airlines to cancel flights ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.

From Arkansas to Maine, the storm system has prompted storm alerts for 80 million people over a 1,500-mile area. The weather has already been blamed for two deaths and several injuries from a tour bus that crashed on slick roads in northern Mississippi.

More than 180 flights have been canceled at airports in the path of the storm -- mostly at Washington's Reagan National Airport and St. Louis Lambert International Airport.

Many airlines are waiving fees for travelers who need to change their flight plans.

Ice has accumulated on the roads in other areas, like Cincinnati and Dayton, Ohio, and in northern and central Kentucky.

Additional snow could fall along the Interstate 95 corridor Thursday night.
