In her fifth decade, a woman decided to get pregnant with the help of a sperm bank and gave her a lot of money for that. Nothing would be unusual if she did not give birth to twins with three years of difference.
Samantha McConnell, 46, has chosen her father's children in the European sperm bank and spent 12,000 pounds on it and finally dreamed of becoming a mother. She now has five-year-old Grays and one-year-old Rory, who are actually twins.
They started during the same procedure - mating eggs with donor sperm, a 35-year-old student from Denmark named Lens. Part of the embryo was frozen at the time, and one of its embryos was created.
She says that although the difference between her twin twins is more than three years old, they are very closely related.
- It's amazing to have twins who were born with years of difference. They have the same naughty smile and are very close. Rory is a lively boy, and Grace is his patronizing older sister - says this self-sacrificing mother proudly, who could not imagine life without children. About becoming a mother seriously began to think when she was 38 years old. She broke off a ten-year relationship, and she wanted her children.
- I did not want to raise a child with someone I do not know well, it was too risky for me. I decided to be a single parent and went to the clinic, she said. Also, she did not want the donor to be anonymous so that children would meet him one day, when they are of age.
However, everything did not go smoothly as planned. She says she was hacked because the first attempt to conceal failed.
- The second process was more demanding and harder. I gave myself three hormonal injections a day and got local anesthesia when they ate eggs. They fertilized seven of my donor sperm eggs and returned two of the embryos to the uterus. Others froze, she said.
She was finally pregnant, she found out four days after her 40th birthday. She could not have wanted a better gift.
- I cried when she was born, when I saw her. I was finally a mother, "she said.
She started thinking about another child after the age of 43, and she wanted Grace to have a brother or sister. So after another visit, the clinic came to the world by Rory. However, he was soon diagnosed with a rare disease associated with digestion. The doctors surgically operated him and barely gave him life.
"These kids are technically twisted twins, because they are conceived at the same time by the same eggs and the same sperm," explained the phenomenon of a doctor from the clinic where Samantha was.
