Donald J. and Ruth S. Thornton, 65 years

WATERTOWN — Donald J. and Ruth S. Thornton, 1217 Gill St., observed their 65th wedding anniversary March 30.

Mr. Thornton, son of Everette A. and Julia E. Thornton, and Ruth S. Layton, daughter of Clarence C. and Lauretta K. Layton, were married March 30, 1952, in the rectory of Holy Family Church with the Rev. Albert J. Farrell officiating.

Honor attendants were Anastasia J. Layton, sister-in-law of the bride, and Stanley F. Thornton, brother of the groom.

Mr. Thornton attended Redwood schools and served in the Navy from 1950 to 1954. He worked at Carl’s Auto before working at Fort Drum, retiring in 1989 from Equipment Concentration Site on post and the 332nd Ordinance Battalion Army Reserve. He enjoys reading, crossword puzzles, camping, dancing and woodworking.

Mrs. Thornton graduated from Watertown High School in 1944. She worked at Wise Dress Shop, J.J. Newberry Co. and Howland’s Department Store. She enjoys reading, crossword puzzles, camping and dancing.

The couple has a daughter and son-in-law, Linda L. and Charles R. Redwine, Westfield, Ind.; a son, Kevin J. Thornton, Canastota; two grandsons, one great-granddaughter and one great-grandson.
