High school basketball: Heuvelton advance past IHC to reach state girls semifinals; Canton makes state boys semifinals

POTSDAM — Paige McCormick scored 32 points and grabbed 12 of her 18 rebounds on the offensive boards as 25-1 Heuvelton erased an eight-point deficit in the second quarter and defeated Immaculate Heart Central 64-49 Saturday in the state Class D regional girls basketball final at SUNY Potsdam.

Heuvelton advanced to next week’s state semifinals in a bid to land a third straight state crown at Hudson Valley Community College.

Alex Steele and Kristi Donnelly each netted two 3-pointers, scoring eight points for Heuvelton.

IHC (19-6) received 29 points from guard Jackie Piddock and 15 from forward Abby Piddock.

In the Class B boys basketball regional final at SUNY Plattsburgh, Canton overcame a 10-point halftime deficit and defeated Section 7’s Northeastern Clinton, 59-49, to advance to the state semifinals in Binghamton.

Canton trailed Northeastern Clinton 19-8 after one quarter and 34-24 at halftime.
