AURORA — Luke DeGaetano scored five goals, including the game-winner with 11 seconds remaining, as the SUNY Canton men’s lacrosse team edged Wells 14-13 in a nonconference game Thursday.
Jake Sutton and Josh Yelvington each threw in three goals for the Kangaroos (3-5 overall). Trenton Yule scored two goals for SUNY Canton.
Aaron Heisey led Wells (1-3) with six goals. Alex Milliken contributed three and Tanner Mingen scored two.
■ Former St. Lawrence Central standout Lindsey Thayer threw a five-inning, one-hit shutout, striking out 10, to lead St. John Fisher to an 8-0 win over Clarkson, completing a sweep of a nonconference softball doubleheader in Pittsford. The fifth-ranked Cardinals (12-2) beat Clarkson 2-1 in game one.
Sarah Kubik went 3-for-3, including a home run, and drove in three runs in game two for the Cardinals and Kristina Balsano also homered.
The Cardinals scored single runs in the sixth and seventh to win game one. Jamie Bridge homered for Clarkson (10-10) in the opener.
■ Marco Amendola’s win in singles clinched a 6-3 win for the St. Lawrence University men’s tennis team over Hamilton College in a nonconference match in Canton. He also was part of a winning doubles team for the Saints, who won two of three doubles matches and went 4-2 in singles.
