From the drawers of the Top Secret Fyles:
Tyler Lydon will definitely hear his name called in Thursday’s NBA draft. The question will be, does the former Syracuse University star forward go in the first or second round?
In a survey of random NBA mock drafts, Lydon is projected to a late first-round choice by seven models, while three sites have Lydon going early in the second round.
The most popular destination for Lydon is the Utah Jazz by four sites and three of them have Lydon going as the 24th overall pick and fourth at No. 30. Utah owns those two slots.
Lydon, with his outside shooting ability to go with his rebounding skills, would potentially fill a needed vacancy, especially if Jazz leading scorer Gordon Hayward leaves the team via free agency.
A couple of drafts pegged Lydon at No. 23 by the Raptors and No. 28 by the Lakers, also in the first round.
The Suns are interested in Lydon with two sites writing that the 6-foot-9, 215-pounder will go 32nd overall, and a third saying Lydon should be taken by the Magic at No. 35.
During some of Lydon’s workouts, scouts were impressed by the sharpness of Lydon’s shooting touch, and they say the areas that Lydon needs improvements are his overall strength and consistency.
I think Lydon will go in the No. 25-33 range.
As for Lydon’s ex-teammate, guard Andrew White, a couple of models have him being picked at No. 46 by the 76ers and No. 49 by the Nuggets.
