Actress Rachel McAdams recently confirmed that she is indeed a new mom—yeah, we didn't know either—and her unique perspective on waiting to have a baby until later in life is totally awesome.

During a new interview with The Sunday Times, Rachel revealed for the first time ever that she has a 7-month-old son (whose name she purposely withholds to protect his privacy) with boyfriend Jamie Linden, People reports.

“It’s the greatest thing that’s ever happened to me, hands down,” she said.

In the interview, the actress, now 40, admitted that she waited "a long time for motherhood" but has no regrets. “It’s just how it happened ... And I didn’t want to do it before it was the right time."

And to all the naysayers who question why someone would want to have a baby later in life, the Disobedience star provided an excellent response. “[People say] your life is not your own anymore, but I had 39 years of me. I was sick of me. I was so happy to put the focus on some other person."

As Rachel's quotes suggest, delaying pregnancy can be incredibly convenient, because you have extra years to focus on yourself. And when you want to have a kid, you can choose a time in your life when you know you'll be able to be fully committed.

In the interview, Rachel also talked about how she's adjusting to motherhood. "I have clothes on and that’s a good thing. I don’t even know what I’m wearing today. The shoes are held together with glue. Isn’t that sad? I need to get a life.”

Yup, it sounds like Rachel is getting the true new-mom experience. Welcome!

But in all seriousness, the actress seems to really be enjoying having a bundle of joy to care for. "I’m having more fun being a mom than I’ve ever had. Everything about it is interesting and exciting and inspiring to me. Even the tough days—there’s something delightful about them.”

She even hinted that she's open to having another child. “I think there is definitely room for more,” she said.

Although new research has shown it can be beneficial for women to become mothers at an older age—for themselves and their children—there's still concern that women who choose this route will be judged for their decision—namely because of fertility challenges, the risk of pregnancy loss and potential health risks to the baby. It's good to know celebs like Rachel McAdams aren't afraid to speak out about the topic, and let people know it can also be a great decision to wait to have a baby.
